Open mic comedy in Seattle

Hello lovely people! It’s been about 5 months since we moved to the beautiful city of Seattle. We moved here with a puppy, so we haven’t been able to explore the city as much as we would have liked to. But as Bailey is growing up, we have started going places as well. My husband is a closet comedian and has fun performing stand up comedy. We started going out to open mic comedy nights sometime in February and I think I can give you a quick list of places that we have checked out so far.

1.) Comedy Underground, Seattle – Open Mic Mondays

Whether you are an aspiring comedian, a comedy lover or just on a tinder date, this is a pretty cool place to be on Monday nights. This is located on Occidental Avenue, right below Swannies. The open mic starts at 8 pm every Monday night. Sign-ups open at 7:15 PM. There are about 30 people on the list every Monday. Guests pay a cover charge of $6. If you bring a guest, you are guaranteed a spot in the line-up. If you come alone and want to perform, chances are you will be bumped to the next week. The quality of comedy at this open mic is pretty good. The food menu is pretty limited and sometimes the kitchen is closed. Drinks are available for purchase at the bar upstairs if the kitchen is closed at underground. Each comic gets 3 minutes to perform, so the show goes on till about 9:30-10 pm.

TICKETS: Cover charge of $6 (cash only). They have an atm right beside the counter so if you end up going without cash, it’s no biggie.

2.) Comedy Underground, Seattle – Call back show

They also have a callback show on Tuesdays, where they invite their best comics from Monday to perform slightly longer sets. Truth be told, I didn’t have as much fun on Tuesday as I did on Monday. The crowd was boring and not interactive at all. The quality of comedy seemed to go down a little as well. But, I’ve only been there on one Tuesday so it may have been a bad day.

TICKETS: Cover charge of $4 (cash only). They have an atm right beside the counter so if you end up going without cash, it’s no biggie.

3.) Dirty Martini Shake up – The Rendezvous – 2nd Ave, Seattle

This is by far the best open mic comedy show that I have been to in Seattle. The Dirty Martini Shake up is hosted by Michael and they have a panel of 3 comics along with the host for fun banter throughout. They have a smaller line-up of comics for standup compared to Comedy underground, but they make sure the audience is entertained all along. The set length of standup comics varies based on the number of people who show up to perform. The panelists also play a different game each week as part of the show. The show starts at 7 pm and goes on until 8:30 pm. They stream live on Facebook as well. This is definitely the place to be on Wednesday nights.

TICKETS: Tickets are 5$ can be purchased here.

Every comic on the panel gets to bring two guests for free.

4.) Tippe and Drague Alehouse – Beacon Hill, Seattle

They have an open mic on the first Saturday of every month. We happened to catch this month’s open mic and it was amazing. The host is hilarious and the comics that performed there were great too. It is a cozy place, with a great crowd. Good food and drinks.

TICKETS: No cover charge. Every comic gets one free drink.

5.) The Three Lions Pub

I wouldn’t really go back to this place for an open mic. This is a typical bar that serves food and drinks to customers. They have space in one corner where they set up a small stage with a mic. That’s where the comics perform. They have open mic comedy every Tuesday. When we arrived, the place was packed with people having dinner, but as it was time to start the show, the place emptied out. Their open mic begins at 8 pm and they had a small line-up of comics, most of who seemed to be friends of the host. Their featured comic was pretty good, but that’s all I have to say for the good part. The food was decent.

TICKETS: No cover charge.

These are the few places that we have been to for open mics in and around Seattle and I’m sure we will go to many more. I will update this post as we go. I hope this helps anyone who is looking for entertainment around here.

Have you been to any of these places yet? Tell me all about your experience. I would love to hear from you 🙂
