If you change nothing, nothing will change

” The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results “

– Albert Einstein

I can’t tell you how many times my husband quoted Einstein to me in the recent past. It never stuck though. I heard him, agreed with him, but never applied it to my life.

I heard this in a couple of movies this week and it just stuck. No effort needed. There is something about movies that makes you believe everything a person says on screen. This line made me think about what I was doing.

While thinking this over, I realized I have proof of concept in my own life. Not very long ago, I made serious lifestyle changes, in order to have a healthy and fit body. My journey may appear short, but it was a tough path. I can honestly say that changing my lifestyle changed my life.

We all have dreams and desires for a better life than we are living at the moment. We know we can have it. We know we deserve it. But how many of us actually make changes in our life to achieve it? ‘It’ could be anything. An ideal weight, a new job, fame or a healthier lifestyle. Whatever the ‘it’ is, we cannot achieve it without making an effort.

Let’s take the easiest example. I browse Instagram a lot and follow quite a few celebrities. I look at their perfect flawless bodies and believe they are blessed. I aspire to maintain myself like they do, but I fall short of determination some times. I start off trying for a few days and give up very easily when I don’t see drastic results. Ideally, I would love to make no changes in my current cushy life and see results anyway. That is not how things work though. Nothing and I mean nothing, is achieved without working for it.

If what you want is a healthy and fit body, be prepared to make changes in your eating and exercising habits. If what you want is a new job, be prepared to go the extra mile. Take that certification exam, ask that friend for a reference, or reach out to that recruiter.
