Be at peace with your emotions

The fast pace of today’s world has forced everyone to believe that it is unforgivable to take a step back. If you are not moving forward, you are not moving. We forget that being still can also mean that we are at peace. I’ve had a rough time the last few months. Tons of uncertainty, lots of stress and no travel whatsoever. 

As I reflect on this today, I realize how much time I’ve lost while playing the waiting game. Life has become a series of ‘let’s do this when that happens’ and it has been passing me by while I miss out. While this has helped me make a conscious decision to keep up with life, I also realized that it’s okay to have some downtime once in a while.

While being an advocate for positive vibes and happiness, I somehow let myself believe that the only way to deal with life is to stay happy all the time. So I beat myself up every time I feel less than superlatively happy. Like I don’t deserve to wallow once in a while. The question is, how would I learn to be happy if I don’t know how to deal with being occasionally unhappy? The key is to be at peace with whatever I am feeling. Feelings come naturally and as long as I try to control them, they will retaliate. There is no shame in feeling down once in a while. I fall down, I stay there for a while if needed, but I pick myself up and try to reach greater heights. I believe that is the way of life.

If there is something that has got you feeling down, embrace it, let it flow and you can be happy again when you are ready. Be at peace with your emotions. Life needs balance and so do you. Love yourself.
